Donald Trump, are you listening?

The press release didn’t say it, but the message screamed off the page with the news about the bipartisan groundbreaking for the expansion of a aerospace facility in Arvada Thursday.

The night U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner, a Republican from Yuma, stood with Trump in Colorado Springs, as the president said he hadn’t yet made up his mind where he would locate the U.S. Space Command, if he wins a second term in November, but El Paso County is still strongly in the mix.

Earlier that day Gardner stood with Democratic U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter and Arvada Mayor Marc Williams to turn the first spade on a 43,000 square foot manufacturing facility for Barber-Nichols Inc..

The Colorado company engineers space-based applications and turbo-machinery for satellites and submarines, as well as working on advanced energy generation and storage, cryogenics and commercial and government needs.

“Any day you can help welcome new manufacturing jobs and facilities to Colorado is a good day,” Gardner said in a statement, adding that it would “support more high-paying jobs in the Centennial State.”

Barber-Nichols plans to hire more than 20 full-time employees this year, including machinists, technicians and engineers from the Denver-metro area.

“The company’s contribution to our local community and their support of some of Colorado’s biggest industries is invaluable,” Perlmutter said. “Keep up the good work!”
