Senate impeachment proceedings open as House Democrats present charges

House Democrats serving as impeachment managers delivered the articles of impeachment to the Senate Thursday and began “exhibiting” the articles on the floor.
House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, read the impeachment resolutions to Senate lawmakers.
The House voted on Dec. 18 to pass two articles impeaching President Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress, relating to the Ukraine military aid affair.
Later Thursday, Chief Justice John Roberts will swear in all 100 senators to serve as jurors in a trial set to begin on Jan. 21
Schiff, reading the resolution, said Trump “acted in a manner grossly incompetent with self-governance and the rule of law.”
