Michael Bennet to ring in New Year with 2020’s first town hall in New Hampshire
Democrat Michael Bennet plans to start 2020 just after midnight on New Year’s Day with a late-night town hall in New Hampshire, where the Colorado senator is hoping to kick-start his presidential campaign.
Bennet’s campaign says it will be the first town hall of the year anywhere in the country.
It’s part of the dark horse candidate’s commitment to hold 50 town halls in New Hampshire during the 10 weeks leading up to the state’s first-in-the-nation primary on Feb. 11 — just 41 days after Bennet rings in the New Year and then takes questions from voters.
He’s almost half way there, according to the candidate’s website, which lists 21 town halls he’s held since announcing the plan in early December.
The holiday get-together — described variously by Bennet’s campaign as a meet and greet, a house party and a town hall-style event — starts at 12:01 a.m. at a private home in Manchester, the Granite State’s largest city. Sign up here to find out the location. The hour-long event will be live-streamed here on Facebook.
Later the same day, Bennet and his wife, environmental attorney Susan Daggett, and their three daughters will be on hand for a New Year’s brunch from 1-2 p.m. at the campaign’s Nashua office.
The latest polling average compiled by FiveThirtyEight shows Bennet nearly in last place among New Hampshire’s notoriously fickle and independent-minded voters. With 0.1% support, Bennet ranks 14th, behind author and spiritual guide Marianne Williamson, who has 0.4%, but a smidgen ahead of former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, who has an even 0% support.
