The Pueblo Chieftain: Running on reserves
You don’t need to have an advanced degree in financial planning to understand that if you spend more money than you take in, eventually you’re going to have some problems.
That’s true if you’re running a business or managing a household. And it’s certainly true when you’re preparing a budget for an operation as large as Pueblo’s taxpayer-funded city government.
The City Council gave its approval last week to a new budget for next year, but not without a few words of caution from Councilman Mark Aliff. Aliff noted that in order to make ends meet, the city will need to take about $6 million from its reserve funds.
