Two familiar names will appear together in the first of a series of a three-year speaker series titled “Bipartisanship (and friendship) happen!”

Former U.S. Sen. Mark Udall and former U.S. Rep. Bob Beauprez will speak on Dec. 10 at the University of Colorado-Boulder about “their sturdy and long-lasting friendship,” before moving on to “a wide-ranging conversation about issues on which they agree, disagree, and half-agree.”

Udall, a Democrat, served one term in the Senate from 2009-2015. He represented the Second Congressional District for 10 years prior to that.

Beauprez, a Republican, represented the Seventh Congressional District from 2003 to 2007 and chaired the Colorado Republican Party.

Both men lost their statewide races in 2014 – Udall as the incumbent senator and Beauprez as a gubernatorial candidate.

GovTrack, a website that monitors the activities of Congress, found that Udall was Beauprez’s most frequent legislative co-sponsor during the latter’s two terms in the house: Udall co-sponsored four of Beauprez’s bills. Those included a land exchange bill, a rural water infrastructure bill, an alcohol safety bill, and a proposal clarifying acquisition of federal trails.
