The Pueblo Chieftain: Our picks for school board
If you’ve been thinking that there need to be some new faces on the Pueblo School District 60 board of education, then your moment has arrived. After the November election is over, the board will include no more than one member who has served a full term. And depending on what happens, it could be a board made up entirely of first termers.
By the way, we’ve been thinking about the need for change, too. For a while now, it has seemed like the board has been too resistant to consider new ideas that originate anywhere outside of the district’s administrative offices. A good example of this has been the board’s refusal to discuss community schools, a holistic approach to learning that has been successful in other cities, apparently because some members have been displeased with the manner in which reform advocates raised the subject.
For that reason and others, we’re recommending three newcomers who we hope will bring an infusion of new energy and new ideas to a board that too often has been willing to settle for the status quo.
