Denver to convert more lanes downtown into bus-only
Denver is taking more steps to help buses and bicycles navigate downtown.
The city plans on changing a car lane on 15th Street into a bus-only lane between Court Place and Larimer Street, The Denver Post reports. The same change will be applied to 17th Street later this year between Market Street and Broadway.
Denver will also be adding further protections for bicyclists traveling on 15th Street in light of fatal traffic accidents this year. Left-turn lanes that overlap with the bike lane will be eliminated, rubber curbs will be placed along the bike lane, and bollards will be added near the corners of intersections, according to the Post.
“More and more people are choosing to use different modes to move around our community. We all need to be more aware and less distracted when we’re on our streets,” Hancock said in a statement in August.
“We’re going to keep pushing for more steps to reduce speeds and reduce conflicts between modes, so fewer and fewer people, until we reach zero, are losing their lives on our streets.”
