Denver issuing fewer tickets as parking enforcement team shrinks
Denver issued fewer parking tickets in 2018 than any year in the prior decade, according to a recent financial report.
Just over 526,000 tickets were issued, compared to more than 574,000 in 2017 and around 642,000 in 2016, according to the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, released Aug. 30.
This isn’t by choice, reports the Denver Post. Rather, the city is reportedly having issues recruiting employees to their parking enforcement team.
“Amid a strong economy and low unemployment rates the last few years, we started having a hard time retaining and recruiting enforcement agents,” public works spokeswoman Nancy Kuhn wrote in an email to the Denver Post.
The relaxed enforcement has coincided with slightly less usage of parking meters downtown, Kuhn said.
The city lost out on $6,125,200 in revenue due to the decrease, as well as a downward trend in photo radar collections, according to the report.
