Adams County to consider updating oil and gas regulations Tuesday
Adams County commissioners were discussing new regulations for oil and gas development at their meeting Tuesday.
A draft of the proposed updates recommends a 1,000-foot setback between well sites and property lines for homes, schools, building units and undefined “environmentally sensitive” areas, reported the Denver Business Journal.
Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill into law April that bolstered local governmental authority over oil and gas development, paving the way for counties to re-examine their practices.
SB-181 also prioritizes public health and safety over oil and gas production.
The Colorado Oil and Gas Association wrote a letter to the Adams County Planning Commission detailing its concerns, according to the DBJ.
“Because so few potential locations will be in compliance with this setback provision, it will effectively act as a ban on development,” said the letter signed by Dan Haley, COGA’s CEO and president.
