VP Mike Pence to attend campaign events for Trump, Cory Gardner in Colorado on Monday
Vice President Mike Pence is planning to return to Colorado on Monday to support President Donald Trump’s 2020 campaign and U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner’s re-election bid, Republican sources tell Colorado Politics.
The vice president will be attending a fundraiser for the Trump Victory Committee – a joint fundraising operation for the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee – in Aspen, as well as an event for Gardner’s campaign on the northern Front Range, according to GOP sources.
Billed as a “VIP Reception” with Pence, the Aspen fundraiser is hosted by RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, RNC Co-Chairman Tommy Hicks Jr. and Todd Ricketts, a co-owner of the Chicago Cubs and the GOP’s national finance chairman, according to an invitation obtained by Colorado Politics.
Tickets to the fundraiser cost $35,000 per couple, the invitation says.
A spokesman for the Gardner campaign didn’t respond to a request for comment.
President Trump’s daughter, White House advisor Ivanka Trump, is scheduled to be in Colorado the same day to tour the the Lockheed Martin aerospace facility in Littleton.
Pence spent a week vacationing in Aspen around the Christmas holiday in 2017 and has headlined several fundraisers in Colorado in recent years.
The former Indiana governor visited the state briefly last year to attend an Oct. 18 fundraising luncheon at The Palm steakhouse in Denver. That event benefited a political action committee that supported candidates aligned with Trump.
A year before that, Pence was greeted with protesters clad in outfits inspired by the novel and TV series “The Handmaid’s Tale” at a small fundraiser for the Colorado Republican Party.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
