The Pueblo Chieftain: ‘Safe haven’ laws are necessary

For some people, it’s unimaginable why any parent would voluntarily give up his or her baby to a stranger.

But that’s precisely why Colorado’s so-called “safe haven” law was adopted – to give people faced with unimaginably difficult circumstances an option to provide their babies with better lives.

Residents living in this area learned about an example of the law in action a few days ago, when a man dropped off an infant at a Canon City fire station. In accordance with the law, the man was not publicly identified.
