Colorado Supreme Court upholds conviction of man on death row for killing of state senator’s son
The Colorado Supreme Court has upheld the attempted murder conviction of a man who is on death row for the related killing of a state senator’s son.
The Denver Post reports that the court upheld the 2006 attempted first-degree murder conviction of Robert Ray for shooting two men at a music festival in 2004.
Ray was later sentenced to death row for killing one of the attempted murder victims, Javad Marshall-Fields, and his fiancée.
Marshall-Fields, who is the son of Democratic state Sen. Rhonda Fields, was scheduled to be a witness in Ray’s attempted murder trial.
Ray was also found guilty of first-degree assault on the attempted murder victims and of accessory to the murder of another man who was fatally shot on the night of the music festival.
