Lamborn backs Trump as House passes bill with funds for border wall

U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn announced his support for President Trump’s border wall as he and house Republicans voted for a short-term spending bill Thursday evening.

The bill included an amendment that added $5.7 billion for construction of the wall and $8.7 billion for disaster relief, Lamborn’s office said in a release.

It passed by a vote of 217-185. The bill now moves to the Senate where it will need 60 votes to pass; its prospects were uncertain, raising the possibility of a partial government shutdown..

Following the house vote, Lamborn declared his support for the president and securing the border.

“Tonight, I voted to stand with President Trump and fulfill our promise to the American people to fully fund the wall and secure the border,” Lamborn said in a Thusday night statement.

“And now it is time for the Senate to do their job. Securing the border should not be a partisan issue. Our country deserves a secure border and immigration laws that put the safety, security and prosperity of Americans first.”
