U.S. Rep.-elect Joe Neguse has been elected as one of two freshman representatives to the Democratic leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives when he takes office in January, his office announced Thursday.

Neguse, D-Boulder, will join Rep.-elect Katie Hill of California in that role. The pair were selected by incoming Democratic House members.

“I could not be more thrilled at the trust the freshman class has placed in Rep. Hill and me,” Neguse said in a statement. “In a caucus that is younger and more diverse than ever, we hope to bring forward the manifold, passionate voices of our fellow new members to the caucus leadership in order to create a productive session.”

Neguse, 34, was elected Nov. 6 to succeed Gov.-elect Jared Polis in representing the 2nd Congressional District.

“House Democrats are proud that Members-Elect Katie Hill and Joe Neguse will be part of our Democratic leadership,” said U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, who is expected to be appointed as the next speaker of the House.

” … Joe Neguse has a proven track record of fighting for the toughest issues facing America’s young people and workers, and we look forward to the fresh voice and visionary leadership he will bring to this important position,” Pelosi said.

Neguse was one of two Colorado House Democrats who voted Wednesday in support of Pelosi’s bid to be speaker, along with Rep. Diana DeGette, D-Denver. Rep. Ed Perlmutter and Rep.-elect Jason Crow were opposed to Pelosi.

House Democratic freshmen also chose Reps-elect Haley Stevens of Michigan and Colin Allred of Texas as co-presidents of the freshman class.
