The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel: Reject Amendment 74 and Proposition 112

Thus far we’ve endorsed two local measures (Ballot Issue 1A and Referred Measure 2A) that would benefit local government, nonprofits and the economy. Shifting to the statewide ballot issues, we oppose two measures that would severely impact any community in the state.

We’re talking about Amendment 74 – the so-called “takings” measure – and Proposition 112, which would increase setback requirements for oil and natural gas activity. If either passes, local governments will be harmed. They’ll either lose out on tax revenues from oil and gas development or face expensive lawsuits over basic land-use decisions. The taxpayer loses no matter what.
