WATCH: Mike Coffman: ‘I’m not your Republican congressman, I’m your congressman’

By Katelyn Caralle, Washington Examiner
U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman – in a tight race in Colorado’s 6th Congressional District – appears to be putting some distance between himself and the Republican Party as he runs for re-election this year.
“I’m not your Republican congressman, I’m your congressman. I just want them to see me, and they do now, not as a partisan player,” the Aurora Republican told CNN.
CNN’s “New Day” program takes a look at Coffman’s race against Democrat Jason Crow in what it calls “a battleground district” in this report, posted to Twitter. (CLICK on the Twitter bird symbol to watch.)

Coffman said most people in his district, including himself, don’t necessarily disagree with President Donald Trump’s policies, but just with his tone.
When asked if Trump is a drag on Coffman in his district, he said the president does not help him win over voters.
“Well, it [Trump] doesn’t help. It’s less about policies then it’s about his tone. You know college educated and women, just really are offended by his tone,” Coffman said.
Coffman won in Colorado’s 6th District by 8 points in 2016 even though Hillary Clinton won the district by 9 percent in the presidential election.
A recently turned independent voter in Colorodo’s 6th District told CNN that his “disappointment” in Trump is “so significant” that, even though he supports Coffman, he will most likely vote against Republicans in the 2018 midterms.
“My disappointment in the president is so significant that I want to vote all the way down the ticket against Republicans,” the independent voter told CNN.
The 6th District of Colorado has more registered independents than Republican or Democratic voters.
Crow is running against Coffman in the midterms, which are now less than 50 days away. He represents the struggle Democrats are having embracing their own leaders, and says he will vote for someone other than House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi if he wins.
“I will not vote for Nancy Pelosi,” Crow said.
