The Pueblo Chieftain: Time for D60 to make some tough decisions

File this one in the category of “better late than never.” A few days ago, the Pueblo City Schools (D60) board gave approval to a couple of policy documents that would guide the process for closing schools.

Together, the policies outline the steps the school superintendent and board would take in determining if continued operations of any particular school wouldn’t be cost effective. The documents address such issues as parental notification, timetables for closure and the impact closures might have on schools that remain open.

As we’ve said before, this step is long overdue. D60 officials should have thoroughly explored the issue of school closures and consolidations before the board voted to put a question on the November ballot seeking more funding for the school district.
