Republican AGs group up ad buy to back George Brauchler
The Republican Attorneys General Association upped its ad buy for George Brauchler Tuesday to $250,000, telling Colorado Politics, “This is just the beginning.”
That’s bad news for Phil Weiser, who spent heavily to ward off a Democratic primary challenge from state Rep. Joe Salazar, an underfunded underdog from Thornton.
RAGA released the ad, called “Protect,” immediately after the June 26 primary.
“Winning candidates have a compelling story to share and the experience to do the job,” Scott Will, RAGA’s executive director, told Colorado Politics. “RAGA is excited to share George Brauchler’s story with Coloradans, because as a career prosecutor, Colonel in the Army National Guard, and committed family man – George is a leader who can be trusted. George is a charismatic problem-solver who will complete the mission. He will keep Colorado communities safe.”
It’s clear the GOP plans to make much out of Brauchler’s experience as the district attorney for Arapahoe and surrounding counties. Brauchler successfully prosecuted Aurora theater shooter James Holmes, but failed to convince a jury to give Holmes the death penalty. Weiser is a former law school dean at the University of Colorado and has far less actual court room experience, Westword reported last month.
