The father of U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter of Arvada died Sunday, the congressman said on Twitter Monday.

Leonard Michael Perlmutter was known as “Len” or “Laz,” his son said, and was “a great man and a great Coloradan.” He was 92.

“The breadth and the impact of his accomplishments and endeavors is immeasurable,” Ed Perlmutter said in s statement. “There was no job and no person too big or too small for him. He was an innovator, businessman, educator, civic leader, dog lover, Democrat from the top of his head to the tips of toes, and a wonderful father, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He worked hard, he played hard and he always kept faith with himself.

“My family and I deeply appreciate your thoughts and prayers. In the coming days, we will provide additional information about funeral services.”

Born in Denver, Len Perlmutter was a concrete company executive who received his college degree in 1948 from the University of Colorado, where he also did his post-graduate studies. He was chairman of the University Colorado Foundation and chaired the National Jewish Humulus Lupulus-National Asthma Center board.

He was president and board chairman of the Denver Symphony Association. He is a former president of the National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine and a former president of the Prestressed Concrete Institute, as well as a former president of The Club at Rolling Hills in Golden.

He also is a former adjunct professor in the graduate school of public affairs at the University of Colorado Denver, in addition to serving on state boards.

He is survived by his wife, Alice, and two other children, Joseph and Cassandra.
