Is America a melting pot — or a buffet?
Is today’s America a great melting pot of individuals pursuing their personal dreams (good) or a buffet of tribalistic interests and ideas intent on tearing down and dividing our nation (evil)? At this point, it is both. We are at a tipping point to decide the future of America. We cannot be a melting pot and a buffet at the same time. We must decide. As Abraham Lincoln famously said, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.”
No matter our heritage, black, white, brown, yellow, African, Asian, Indian, Japanese, Chinese, Korean or European, we are all Americans. America is the only country in the history of mankind where individuals from all over the world can move and become Americans. We cannot move to France and become Frenchmen or Australia and become Australians. America is unique!
I understand that America has imperfections, however her Ideals are noble and have lifted more people out of poverty and offered prosperity and freedom to more individuals than ever before. Now, that ideal is under attack and “We the people,” everyday hardworking individuals, must unite for what is good.
I say enough! We must resist the divisive buffet of tribalistic leaders and pundits and reignite and reawaken the great American melting pot.
Years ago, schoolchildren would say the Pledge of Allegiance at the start of each school day. We would even pray for our country or pause for a moment of silence. Today, tribalistic leaders and pundits no longer honor the sacrifice of men and women who gave their lives so that we may live free and prosper. Today, tribalistic leaders and pundits no longer acknowledge that we have a purpose and a duty to preserve the American ideal for ourselves and our future generations. Today, tribalistic leaders and pundits no longer respect life, other viewpoints or our fellow citizens.
I say enough! We must resist the divisive buffet of tribalistic leaders and pundits and reignite and reawaken the great American melting pot. We know that we are better when we meld together. We know that we are better when we work together. We know that we are better people when we aspire together.
Let us all come together to create a movement to heal and unite America. It’s simple. Take the Facebook 1776 Pledge. Commit to coming together to reaffirm the idea that we are ONE NATION UNDER GOD and will not let the forces of evil separate us from who we are as Americans. We are the great melting pot!
