By most accounts, Democrats are licking their chops in advance of November’s midterm congressional races amid an anti-Trump backlash.

Republicans, for the most part, are maintaining stiff-upper-lipped optimism. Or, perhaps it’s just hope against hope.

Then there’s Colorado’s 4th Congressional District Republican U.S. Rep. Ken Buck., who’s not mincing words. Though of course safe in his solid-red northeast Colorado seat, Buck told Fox News Radio conservative commentator Todd Starnes that conservatives are disenchanted, which can’t bode well for November’s midterm election.

Starnes spoke with House Freedom Caucus Member Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) about the anger still felt by conservatives after President Trump signed the omnibus spending bill despite the president saying he will never sign a bill like it again.

Rep. Buck told Starnes that part of the problem with the bill is Republican leadership is more concerned with “giving the Democrats something to run against us than accomplishing something and giving us something to run on.” He then added “my gut isn’t feeling very good” about the GOP’s changes in the midterm elections although there is still time for things to change.

Buck says things don’t look good for the president, either:

… Buck, who is on the House Judiciary Committee, also said that the midterms are crucial because Democrats “can’t get off of Russia” and “so are focused on taking out this President any way they can, impeachment is a serious issue.”

With Trump’s own Republican right flank in a morose mood, it must be getting harder for rank-and-file Republicans in the House to keep smiling.
