The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel: The way it’s supposed to work

On the heels of Sunshine Week – and in light of heightened awareness of local threats to school safety – we would be remiss if we didn’t recognize a Mesa County magistrate for allowing sensitive court proceedings to be observed.

 Magistrates have discretion over who gets to watch juvenile cases. Mesa County Magistrate Will McNulty, recognizing the public has a compelling interest in the outcome of a case involving a 15-year-old boy held in connection with alleged threats to school safety, has allowed developments to be watched for several weeks now.
