Amy Padden picks up Colorado BlueFlower Fund endorsement in AG’s race

Democrat Amy Padden picked up an endorsement in the state attorney general’s race from the Colorado BlueFlower Fund, her campaign announced Thursday.

The left-leaning organization endorses Democratic women who are pro-abortion rights. Padden is the only woman in a crowded Democratic primary field that includes former University of Colorado law school dean Phil Weiser, Rep. Joe Salazar and Denver lawyer Brad Levin. George Brauchler is the only candidate so far in the Republican primary.

“Not only are we excited to see a woman running for attorney general, but Amy shares our values and our commitment to protecting women, their fundamental freedom of choice, their access to care, and the organizations that provide that care,” Jennie Peek-Dunstone, president of the BlueFlower Fund, said in a statement.

Padden is a federal prosecutor. She formerly worked in the Consumer Protection Section of the state Attorney General’s Office under former AG John Suthers, a Republican who is now mayor of Colorado Springs.

“Receiving the endorsement of the Colorado BlueFlower Fund is an honor,” Padden said in a statement. “Coloradans want capable, strong women in office, and BlueFlower is helping women candidates reach out to voters and win. I look forward to working with BlueFlower to protect the health, safety and security of women as Colorado’s next attorney general.”

The BlueFlower Fund is a small-donor committee that was in 2005. The organization told candidates that it has distributed almost $125,000 to its endorsees since its inception. The fund is the successor of the Democratic Women’s Political Action Committee.

The report the fund filed with the Secretary of State’s Office in January showed it had only $839.25 in the bank.

The organization has made more than one endorsement in some races. Other endorsements include:

Editor’s note: This story was updated to say John Suthers is “now” mayor of Colorado Springs, instead of “not.” As far as we know he still is.

OK, so the State Department’s in turmoil. No problem; the U.S.’s closest allies know whose door to knock on when they come calling in our nation’s capital – Cory Gardner’s, of course!
