CDOT employees to carry co-worker’s remains to his hometown
DURANGO – Colorado Department of Transportation workers will carry the remains of their co-worker from Denver to his hometown of Pagosa Springs.
The Durango Herald reports that the state workers will make the trip on March 2 in honor of 64-year-old Nolan Olson, who was filling potholes on Feb. 2 when a passing car struck him, causing him to die days later.
Department spokeswoman Lisa Schwantes says a caravan of three or four vehicles will carry Olson’s ashes from Denver along U.S. Highway 285. The total trip is 276 miles (444 kilometers).
A formal procession will take place on the final 42 miles of the journey over Wolf Creek Pass into Pagosa Springs. The procession will include a snowplow that Olson drove during his 14 years as a state employee.
