Sen. Michael Bennet should be checking his mailbox for a ‘thank you’ note from Hezbollah for helping hook them up with cash, if he hasn’t already.

Bennet was one of the chief backers of President Obama’s Iran nuclear deal that gave the largest state sponsor of terror at least $1.7 billion in American taxpayer money. According to sources, Iran has used the funds to pay its main proxy, the Lebanon-based terror group Hezbollah, along with the Quds Force – Iran’s main foreign intelligence and covert action arm and element of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps – as reported in The Washington Times.

The Obama administration tried to cover up a sprawling investigation into Hezbollah and its highly lucrative drug-trafficking networks to protect the Iran deal, according to a shocking report by the New York Post. The Drug Enforcement Administration worked for almost a decade to bring down the Iran-backed billion dollar-a-year drug cartel, but the justice and treasury departments undermined their efforts to arrest and prosecute members of the cartel. POLITICO said the Obama White House feared upsetting Tehran ahead of the nuclear agreement.

This proves that critics of Bennet’s support of the nuclear deal were onto something. He tirelessly peddled to Coloradans the myth that the president’s Iran nuclear deal would prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon for the full term of the agreement and that it would make our world, namely the United States, safer. Did he know about the secret side deals or these cover-ups, or did he support it without ensuring he had all the facts?

Bennet, who voted three times in support of the Iran deal, repeatedly claimed the nuclear deal would calm the seas and forge a more secure global stage, instilling peace and harmony. The exact opposite has happened, and we are looking at an ever-emboldened and highly volatile Iran that has now been able to fund better-than-ever their terrorist network.

Opposition to the Iran deal is bipartisan and is only likely to grow. At the time the original deal was proposed, Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez, of New York, former chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, also opposed the deal saying, “If Iran is to acquire a nuclear bomb, it will not have my name on it.” Sadly, on top of the drug cartels and terror groups getting bankrolled, Iran’s nuclear bomb may still get Bennet’s name scribbled on the side, painted right below, “Israel will be wiped out,” and right above “Death to America.”

Litigating Bennet’s support of the Iran deal isn’t over. Republicans in Colorado, and Democrats too, should put the heat on Bennet for helping put cash in the hands of terrorists and drug cartels. The negative, if not deadly, consequences of the Iran deal are yet to be fully experienced by innocent people around the world. If Bennet thinks he can run out the clock on being held accountable, he is wrong.
