The Heart Gallery in Fort Collins puts a face on foster care adoption

The Colorado Heart Gallery puts a face, or a few, on foster care adoption this month in Fort Collins, exhibiting photographs of kids hoping to be adopted.
Last year in Colorado 874 such foster kids found permanent homes, the Department of Human Services said. As of a couple of weeks ago, 267 others were awaiting adoption, DHS said.
State Sen. John Kefalas and Rep. Joann Ginal, both Democrats from Fort Collins, visited the exhibit its opening weekend.
“I care about child welfare, and it’s good for me to see what we’re doing and see how we can help them in the legislature,” Kefalas told Colorado Politics.
“For me, child welfare is an important issue, and something I’ve worked on in the legislature. I’m working now on increasing the foster care program to help more kids.”
The display is up through Jan. 31 at SouthGate Church in Fort Collins at 6541 S. College Ave. Times are limited, thought. It’s open on Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Sundays during church services from 10 to 11:30 am.
DHS noted that adoption from foster care has “little to NO cost,” “There is high demand for adoptive families for older teens and sibling groups,” DHS said.
Photographers donated their work for the gallery to help out The Adoption Exchange, a nonprofit that helps foster kids find families.
