The Daily Sentinel: Bustang has its role in serving Colorado

Maybe someday there will be a bullet train from Grand Junction to Denver, cutting off half (or more) of the time it takes to make that four-hour one-way trip.

Sure, you can fly to Denver from Grand Junction if you can afford it. Most of us buckle up and brave a patchy Interstate 70 to do business or play in our state capital.

But if you don’t have a reliable vehicle, your options are limited. In fact, Greyhound is discontinuing its service between Grand Junction and Denver this summer after the state declined to subsidize the route any longer.

No  one will be left in the lurch, however. Part of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s expansion of its Bustang bus service is a route between Grand Junction and Denver slated to begin in July.

As the Sentinel’s Dennis Webb reported, Bustang is funded by fares and by $3 million a year in CDOT FASTER funding which is generated in part on surcharges on vehicle registration fees.

That means we’ve been paying for a service that hasn’t been available to us yet.

To believe surveys, we must pretend Hillary Clinton is president. And this: increase the pot supply, and consumption by kids goes down. It must be true, because “surveys” say so. Hallelujah. More is less. Let’s flood the streets with cigarettes and beer, and maybe teens will smoke and drink less. If soft red gumdrops fell […]
