The Pueblo Chieftain: Helping homeless youth
The POsada youth drop-in center needs more volunteers to help the 18- to 26-year-olds without a permanent place to live in Pueblo.
The drop-in center on Colorado Avenue sees as many as 25 men and women without a home pass through the doors on a typical weekday. The program has only 10 or so volunteers and could use 50 people willing to put in an hour or more each week to provide some basic services, whether it be helping prepare breakfast or donating clean clothing, underwear, hygiene products, backpacks, bicycle locks and food staples such as fruit, butter, eggs, bacon and sliced bread.
Volunteer Charles Parsley, a member of Vineland United Methodist Church group, has done his fair share by helping prepare a robust Thursday morning breakfast.
