Randy Bryce, the Wisconsin Democrat running against House Speaker Paul Ryan, is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the Denver Democrats’ annual Edward M. Kennedy fundraising dinner in October, the party announced this week.

Known as the “Iron Stache” – the union ironworker’s appearance has been compared to mustachioed Parks and Recreation character Ron Swanson – Bryce debuted his run in June with an online video that’s been viewed nearly 600,000 times and raised $430,000 in the first two weeks of his campaign. “He was genetically engineered from Bruce Springsteen songs,” wrote one Twitter observer.

The campaign video opens with President Trump congratulating Ryan on the House vote to repeal the Affordable Care Act and then cuts to “Southeastern Wisconsin,” where Bryce’s mother describes her battle with multiple sclerosis. “I decided to run for office because not everyone’s seated at the table, and it’s time to make a bigger table,” Bryce says. “Let’s trade places, Paul Ryan. You can come work the iron, and I’ll go to D.C.”

Denver Democrats plans to bestow several awards named after illustrious figures from the county party’s past at the fundraiser, chairman Mike Cerbo said. The Dale Tooley Democrat of the Year Award will go to former county chair Anne Murdaugh; Morgan Watters will be named the Ellis McFadden Volunteer of the Year; the Pat Schroeder Rising Star Award will go to state Rep. James Coleman; and the Frank Sullivan Lifetime Achievement Award  will go to Jan Tyler.

The dinner is set for Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Denver Marriott City Center. Tickets are $110, with a VIP option for $150.
