1. Perlmutter takes the plunge.
The biggest splash to date in the 2018 race for Colorado governor happened this week when Democratic Congressman Ed Perlmutter of Arvada jumped in. The move sent ripple effects through political circles as to who might seek to fill his seat in Washington.
2. Slow down on that tax hike, says Senate Transportation Committee
A state Senate Committee overhauled a mega-billion-dollar transportation bill this week. As it’s written now, voters would be asked to approve a smaller sales tax increase. But lawmakers might have to take $100 million out of schools and other social programs to do that. A statehouse showdown is brewing.
3. House and Senate kill partisan pet bills on drilling
It was legislative tit-for-tat on bills addressing oil and gas operations under the gold dome this week. House Democrats killed a GOP effort for tougher penalties for tampering with equipment, and Senate Republicans squashed Democratic legislation to move rigs farther back from schools.
4. Botswanan talks about courage and activism in Denver
Botswanan basketball star Malebogo Molefhe knows that domestic violence can happen to anyone, and its consequences are dire, she said, looking up from a wheelchair. She shared her message in Colorado this week after accepting an International Woman of Courage award from First Lady Melania Trump.

5. Done right, immigration is a money maker for Colorado
Eighteen Colorado economists signed a letter to President Trump saying immigration is important to the state’s overall economy by providing people to perform low-wage jobs. Trump, however, doesn’t seem to be listening.
