What do you want to bet the snow-covered peaks get a shout out Monday morning in Washington? U.S. Sens. Michael Bennet and Cory Gardner are scheduled to introduce their fellow Coloradan Neil Gorsuch to the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Bennet’s words will be interesting, if not-well-chosen. He is a Democrat under tremendous pressure to support Gorsuch, or at least not join Democrats in a filibuster. If Gorsuch can get an up or down vote, Republicans can confirm him.

Might we finally hear how Bennet will vote?

So begins the confirmation hearings for Gorsuch, a native son of Colorado and a judge on the U.S. appellate court in Denver, to make it to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“A fellow Coloradan, Judge Gorsuch is an exceptional jurist who will bring a Western perspective to the Supreme Court,” Gardner said in a statement. “I enthusiastically support his nomination and I look forward to introducing him at his upcoming hearing.”

Gardner’s office provided Colorado praise for Gorsuch from 2006, when he was confirmed to the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.

“From my conversations with Mr. Gorsuch, I am certain he recognizes the proper role of the judiciary,” then-Sen. Wayne Allard, a Republican from Loveland, said on the Senate floor,

“… I believe Mr. Gorsuch is temperamentally and intellectually inclined to stick to the facts and the law in cases that would come before him and that he would refrain from legislating from the bench.”

Then-Sen. Ken Salazar, a top-name Democrat from the San Luis Valley who would later serve in President Obama’s Cabinet, also supported Gorsuch.

“[A] judicial nominee should have a demonstrated dedication to fairness, impartiality, precedent, and the avoidance of judicial activism – from both the left and the right. I believe that Mr. Gorsuch meets this very high test,” Salazar said 11 years ago. “And I believe he will make a fine addition to the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.”
