The Fort Collins Coloradoan editorial: We need leaders, not representatives

During the city elections in 2015, we lamented a lack of diversity among candidates for mayor and City Council seats.

The candidates, by and large, were of the majority demographic in age and ethnicity.

Let us pause and be clear: Over the years, many of our elected officials have done commendable, tireless work in representing our city, county and state. And we believe a diversity of perspectives can only lead to a more nuanced understanding of important issues and the values we hold.
