Muslim travel ban gets social for #CO members of Congress
Members of Congress are getting their licks in on the protests against Donald Trump’s orders to ban travelers from seven predominantly Muslim countries.
“I joined my Democratic colleagues on the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court to demand @POTUS end his unconstitutional and dangerous #MuslimBan,” Rep. Diana DeGette of Denver tweeted out from Washington Monday evening about the time folks in Denver were getting off work.
On Sunday, Republican Rep. Mike Coffman of Aurora tweeted, “While I’ve supported heightened vetting procedures, I have never, nor will I ever support a blanket travel ban for people solely based on ethnic or religious grounds.”
Democratic U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet of Denver said in back-to-back tweets, “The poorly drawn and implemented executive order sacrifices fundamental American values and does not make us safer. @POTUS should rescind EO. If not, Congress must stand together, override EO to end ban, & work to make U.S. safer consistent with our values.”
Republican. Sen. Cory Gardner and U.S. Rep. Ken Buck sat out the issue on social media.
Reps. Scott Tipton of Cortez and Doug Lamborn of Colorado Springs tweeted out images of lengthy statements.
“Rather than being influenced by one-sided media narratives, it is important to remember that President Obama also implemented temporary refugee and visa restrictions for national security purposes,” Lamborn said, following a GOP talking point that Politifact said Monday is “flawed,”
“Now is not a time for division fueled by dishonesty and partisan politics, now is a time for our nation to come together and work diligently to find lasting and sustainable solutions to the national security challenges of the 21st century.”
