Editorial: D60: Cut and freeze
We think Patricia Milner, vice president of the Pueblo City Schools’ board of education, hit the nail on the head.
Faced with a proposed budget that calls for dipping into reserves by anywhere from $3.5 million to $4.8 million, Milner said no. She said the district must reject such a budget.
“As a board, we agreed that if the budget could not be balanced moving forward, that we would make cuts,” Milner said. “That we would, in fact, force the budget to balance to the greatest extent possible.
“I won’t ever be comfortable with that kind of deficit spending. We have to do absolutely everything we can to make big cuts this year, because I think we’re going to fall off a cliff next year.”
