Duplicate ballots mailed to Jeffco home
On the heels of reports of dead voters being sent ballots for years in Colorado comes a case of two ballots sent to the same person for the Nov. 8 general election.
As reported by KDVR Fox 31, Jessica Olson of Evergreen said her 21-year-old daughter, Makinzy, received two mail-in ballots from the Jefferson County Elections Division the day after more than 3 million registered voters were sent the ballots statewide.
The only difference in the ballots was one included Makinzy Olson’s middle name, Kay, and the other was addressed to Makinzy Olson.
Colorado Secretary of State and Jefferson County Elections Division officials told KDVR that systems are in place to detect duplicate ballots issued to the same person, using addresses, driver’s license and Social Security numbers to flag suspect ballots.
Jefferson County officials told KDVR they caught the duplicate a week earlier, but they had already been addressed to be mailed. One of the ballots has been voided, so even if both had been filled out and returned – something Jessica Olson said her daughter would never do – it would not have been counted.
