Washington Examiner Senior Writer Joe Concha slammed legacy media for avoiding coverage regarding gerrymandering in Democratic states. 

Texas made headlines after President Donald Trump backed maps to change districts to win five more seats for the Republican Party. While the Texas House was slated to vote on redistricting this week, the chamber has failed to reach a quorum since 50 Democratic lawmakers left for Massachusetts, New York, and Illinois.

“So whether we’re talking about Illinois or California or Massachusetts or New York, this has been done over and over again. And there were zero media coverage around redistricting in those particular states,” Concha said on Fox News’s Hannity Tuesday.

“And now Texas does it, and they have the right to do it because — to Donald Trump’s point – yes he won there in such a decisive way that you can do this sort of thing.”

Concha pointed out these Texas Democrat lawmakers left for states that are gerrymandered in the most extreme manner than other states.

Illinois is the most gerrymandered state because 82% of its 17 House seats are occupied by Democrats. Former Vice President Kamala Harris, the party’s 2024 presidential nominee, won 55% of the vote there last year, leaving a 27-point gap between their overall state partisan advantage and advantage in House seats.

Texas legislators held a rally in Chicago Tuesday where they were accompanied by United States representatives for Texas who stand to lose their district according to the new map.

Other legislators went to New York, which is the fifth most gerrymandered state since 73% of its 26 House seats go to Democrats. Democrats won 56% of the presidential vote in 2024, leaving a 17-point gap between their overall state partisan advantage and their advantage in House seats.

“The same party who has not allowed a presidential primary in 2016, 2020 or 2024, the Democrats — in terms of installing somebody — now want to talk about saving democracy? The same party that tried to put Donald Trump in jail and took him off of state ballots?” Concha said. 

“I’m sorry, no one is listening anymore because you could only cry wolf for so long.”
