Firefighters dealing with small wildfires in Pueblo County Thursday

Two wildfires near Pueblo occupied firefighters Thursday.

The smaller of the two was reported on the north end of the city, near U.S. Highway 50 and Nyberg Road Thursday afternoon. It burned less than an acre and was declared 100% contained as of 4:45 p.m. according to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office.

The larger, and as of yet uncontained blaze has been named the Daniel Road Fire, and was estimated at 43 acres as of 5:45 p.m. It is burning along the Arkansas River bottom.

Gazette media partner KOAA is also reporting that the 67Lane Fire, near the Pueblo and Otero county line has burned around 20 acres but was “under control” as of 6:05 p.m.

All of Pueblo and El Paso counties remain under a red flag warning until 9 p.m. Thursday, due to gusty winds and low humidity, according to the National Weather Service.
