Kaylee McGhee White claims Gavin Newsom’s focus is more on White House than California

Washington Examiner’s Restoring America editor Kaylee McGhee White implied that Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) is already posturing to run for president in 2028.

Since voters made Donald Trump the winner of the election, Newsom emerged as a leader among Democratic governors revealing their plans to protect their sanctuary status by defending the immigrants living among them. However, border security was a top priority for all voters, especially those who live in these sanctuary cities in California, particularly.

“Apparently, Gavin Newsom is more interested in virtue signaling and staging his 2028 run than actually governing his state. What’s ironic is that these plans, these sanctuary city plans, are coming from many same officials who are currently dismissing Trump’s deportation plan as inhumane or too expensive or logistically impossible,” McGhee White said on Fox News’s Outnumbered Thursday. “No. What’s inhumane is forcing citizens of a state and of a city to constantly be on guard in their own communities because they’re worried about crime.”

McGhee White went on to detail how expensive the border crisis has become as the federal government is footing the bill to transport illegal immigrants, house them, and feed them.

Newsom’s term as governor will end in 2027, leaving him plenty of time to campaign for the next presidential cycle.

Meanwhile, his appeal to protect these immigrants from Trump’s plans is not likely to win over voters. A report from Blueprint found that nearly a quarter of voters ranked the border as their top issue of the Nov. 5 election. It was in the top three issues voters had overall in choosing Trump over Vice President Kamala Harris.
