Lara Trump feels ‘honored’ to be on short list for Rubio’s replacement

Former Republican National Committee Co-Chairwoman Lara Trump said that “it’s an honor” to be considered on the short list to fill Florida’s Senate seat.

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) is slated to join President-elect Donald Trump’s administration as secretary of state in January, thus vacating his seat in the Senate. Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law just resigned from the RNC position, which has prompted speculation that she is leaving the door open to take over for Rubio. Trump has been a Florida resident for the past three years.

Sean Hannity interviewed Lara Trump on Fox News’s Hannity on Monday and asked if she had spoken to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who will ultimately appoint Rubio’s replacement in January before the next election in 2026.

“I’m honored. I’ve heard the same rumors you have, Sean — imagine that. It’s an honor to be even mentioned on this list of people who are incredible patriots and have done an incredible service for this country,” Lara Trump said. “But, of course, it’s an honor to be considered. And I have not talked to Gov. DeSantis about it, but if he calls me and asks me to do it, I would certainly think long and hard about it. It’s a big consideration, but it’s something that I truly would be honored to be asked to do, ultimately.”

Meanwhile, the president-elect reportedly spoke to DeSantis himself to vouch for his daughter-in-law. Elon Musk has also endorsed the former RNC co-chairwoman for the Senate.

Ever since Lara Trump took the role at the RNC, she expressed that her goal was to just work for a single election cycle. She and Michael Whatley replaced former RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel earlier this year. Lara Trump implied that Whatley will continue to work with another GOP leader, who has yet to be named.
