Harris won cat ladies’ vote, while Trump won dog owners’: Survey

Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris garnered 59% of female voters who own only cats, while President-elect Donald Trump won more than half of voters who own either cats or dogs in the 2024 presidential election, according to the AP VoteCast survey.

The survey was conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago over eight days with more than 120,000 voters from a sample of randomly drawn registered voters. It found that Trump won about six in 10 male voters who owned a dog but no cat. Voters who owned a dog were more likely to support Trump by 52% over Harris.

When Trump chose Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) to become his running mate, videos surfaced of past comments that the senator made about “childless cat ladies.” Singer Taylor Swift and other Hollywood celebrities embraced the “childless cat lady” label with their endorsements of Harris for president.

Vance’s own neighbors of Alexandria, Virginia, attempted to harass him and his family with childless cat lady neighborhood parties in a park outside his house.

Despite Vance’s childless cat ladies comment over the summer, Trump went viral on social media in September when he shared stories of Springfield, Ohio residents upset over a Haitian immigrant invasion of their small town during a presidential debate with Harris.

His comments were in reference to viral videos at Springfield city council meetings of residents talking about Haitian migrants taking over their town.

A TikTok dance spread to the beat of a remix song of Trump’s presidential debate comments that migrants were “eating the dogs” and “eating the cats.” Memes of Trump saving kittens and dogs spread on social media.
