Jacque Phillips defeats incumbent Rep. Julia Marvin in HD31 Democratic Primary
Jacque Phillips has unseated incumbent Rep. Julia Marvin in House District 31’s Democratic primary, securing 55% of the vote.
Phillips, a civil rights attorney and former Thornton City Councilmember, told Colorado Politics her top priority if elected would be affordable housing, particularly for seniors.
“We need resources to help our aging population remain financially stable, and must develop better paths for home ownership,” she said. “As your next champion in the legislature, I’ll seek federal grants, local partnerships, and clarify our priorities in the legislature.”
Marvin, who also served on Thornton City Council, had previously defeated Phillips in a January vacancy to fill the seat of former Rep. Said Sharbini. Prior to that, she ran for Mayor of Thornton, but was defeated by incumbent Jan Kulmann.
District 31 encompasses western Adams County and a small portion of Thornton. Of the 45,905 registered voters in the district, 13,814 are Democrats, 7,498 are Republicans, and 23,511 are unaffiliated.
Phillips will face Republican Heidi Pitchforth in the November election.
