Colorado economic development office anticipates $500k film incentive for ‘Coach Prime’
The arrival of Deion Sanders as head of the Colorado Buffaloes football has brought economic prosperity to the University of Colorado, and the state as a whole.
In one example, Visit Boulder, The Convention and Visitors Bureau, said CU’s first home game against Nebraska generated almost $18 million for the region, as reported by Denver Gazette news partner 9News.
Sanders and a revitalized CU football program has brought money into the state, and now the Colorado Economic Development Commission is returning the favor.
The commission approved a Colorado Film Incentive for “Coach Prime” Season Two in March 2023, according to a release. Per the applicant’s estimates, COFTM anticipates approximately $4.9 million in qualified local expenditures, resulting in an anticipated rebate of $500,000. With the multiplier effect, the economic impact could reach up to $9 million.
According to the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade, the Colorado Film Incentive encourages film production in Colorado with a performance-based rebate for up to 20% of qualified expenses. OEDIT says incentive creates jobs for Coloradans and provides on average a 18-to-1 return on investment for the economy. The films also promote Colorado as a tourism destination, OEDIT claims.
Season One of “Coach Prime” followed Sanders as he coached the Jackson State Tigers for its 2022 Southwestern Athletic Conference championship season. Season Two, which is currently in production, will follow Sanders’ transition from coaching the Jackson State to the University of Colorado.
Sanders announced there would be a second season of “Coach Prime” back in April during his appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show“. Amazon dropped a teaser for new season during its Thursday night broadcast of the Minnesota Vikings-Philadelphia Eagles game last month:
The second season of “Coach Prime” is set to debut Dec. 7 on Amazon Prime.
