Colorado is one of the most popular states to move to and move out of, report says
This year, Colorado had the fourth most people moving to the state and the ninth most people moving out of it, according to a recent report from move.org.
Colorado was one of seven states that cracked the top 10 of both lists, with Washington, California, New York, Texas, Illinois and Florida all also gaining and losing the most movers this year.
Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Virginia completed the top 10 for states people were rushing to leave. Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina were among the most popular moving destinations.
One in five Americans moved in 2020, with a whopping 48% citing a loss of income as the primary reason for their move, according to the report.
In addition, 36% said their move was work-related as a result of COVID-19, 34% said it was money-related as a result of COVID-19 and 38% said it was over health concerns in the area.
Denver is seeing the effects of these moving trends as many residents who work in the city move to less expensive locations while working from home.
During the pandemic, Denver’s rental prices are dropping and its vacancies are increasing while the markets in nearby cities such as Aurora and Colorado Springs are on the up.
According to the report, 46% of movers this year moved within the same city and 38% moved within the same state.
