FEEDBACK | Senators must stand up for Colorado students

As of fall 2019, more than 220,000 students nationwide – including nearly 4,000 in Colorado – had pending claims they had been defrauded by their college or university and were eligible for loan forgiveness under the federal borrower defense rule. Sadly, the U.S. Department of Education’s revised version of this rule would make it effectively impossible for defrauded students to get debt relief at all.

But the U.S. Senate will soon vote on a resolution that would overturn the new rule and keep current protections in place. The votes of both Colorado senators are needed to protect the future of these critical student protections.

Colorado’s students deserve to know that their government will defend them if they’re defrauded by a predatory college or university. On behalf of students statewide, I ask both Sens. Michael Bennet and Cory Gardner to support the resolution of disapproval and stand up for Colorado’s students.
