3rd University of Colorado regent opts out of another term
Linda Shoemaker said Wednesday she won’t seek a second term as the University of Colorado’s regent representing Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District and threw her endorsement to fellow Democrat Callie Rennison for a seat on the CU system’s nine-member governing board.
Shoemaker, an attorney and former journalist who lives in Boulder, joins John Carson of Highlands Ranch and vice chair Irene Griego of Lakewood as sitting regents who are not seeking another term.
Regents serve six-year terms.
Rennison, who lives in Superior, is a professor at CU Denver in the School of Public Affairs. So far she faces Democrat David Gross of Boulder, who is senior instructor in the Leeds School of Business on the CU Boulder campus.
“I have no doubt that Professor Rennison will also focus on accountability and speak truth to power if she is elected,” Shoemaker said in a statement Wednesday. “Callie was the first person in her family to earn a college degree. The experience of working her way through school and teaching at CU’s most diverse campus means that Callie will be a forceful advocate for two issues that have also defined my tenure — affordability and accessibility.”
