The Pueblo Chieftain: Super Tuesday primary sounds super
Earlier this year, the Colorado Legislature decided to pledge the state’s electoral college votes to the winner of the popular vote in presidential elections, provided enough other states follow suit to decide those contests. That move generated a healthy debate over whether the electoral college or the popular vote best represents the will of Colorado voters.
Well, it’s also extremely important for the state’s voters to have a say in the presidential primaries that precede the general elections. So it makes sense to have Colorado’s primaries next year on March 3, the so-called “Super Tuesday” when many other states also will be voting.
In 2008, Colorado held caucuses on the same night as the Super Tuesday primary elections in other states. But for some people, the caucus process is confusing and, as a result, may exclude some who would otherwise participate.
