Air Force Academy chapel renovation halted after funds moved
A renovation of the Air Force Academy chapel has been canceled after funds were transferred to a Florida base.
The plans were indefinitely postponed after $68 million for the project was re-allocated for hurricane damage repair at Tyndall Air Force Base in the Florida Panhandle.
Officials at the academy planned to close the chapel for work beginning Jan. 1 but delayed repairs in December. The extensive work to repair leaks in the chapel was the most prominent of 61 projects that have been canceled due to budget changes.
Air Force officials say repairs to Tyndall will cost more than $3 billion after Hurricane Michael damaged all 1,200 of its buildings in October.

CSU’s first female president to begin new job in July
Colorado State University’s first female president is set to begin her new job at the beginning of July.
The CSU System Board of Governors voted March 29 to appoint Joyce McConnell, who will replace outgoing President Tony Frank. McConnell was provost and vice president for academic affairs at West Virginia University.
CSU officials say that during her time at West Virginia University, she led efforts to improve gender equity, focused on raising faculty salaries and promoted diversity and inclusion.
McConnell says she is humbled to have been chosen and “I think this is a real testament that women can lead.”
She will receive a base annual salary of $550,000 as part of a five-year employment agreement with CSU. Frank will transition to a full-time role as chancellor.

CU reaches agreement with former coach
The University of Colorado has reached a contract settlement with its former head football coach.
CU’s $7.23 million agreement with Mike MacIntyre will save about $3 million.
MacIntyre had three years and $10.3 million remaining on his contract when he was fired without cause in November; he was entitled to the full amount in monthly payments through 2021.
Officials say the buyout agreement will be paid through the athletic department, not from tuition, taxpayer dollars or the campus general fund.
Officials say the agreement includes a lump sum payment of about $3.54 million now and a second payment of approximately $3.69 million in January 2020.
McIntyre is now the defensive coordinator at the University of Mississippi.

Forest Service approves ski resort expansion
The U.S. Forest Service has approved an expansion of the Golden Peak area at Vail Mountain ski resort.
The project will double the training space on Golden Peak used by Ski and Snowboard Club Vail.
The expansion will include an additional 760 vertical feet that will bring the area’s total to more than 1,500 vertical feet of race and training terrain.
Officials at the resort say construction is set to begin this summer and will increase the size of Vail’s operational boundary by 68 acres.
The proposal was originally submitted to the forest service in 2014 and has undergone a comprehensive environmental review.
