Metro Denver’s new commuter rail line set to open soon
The Regional Transportation District says the 11-mile commuter rail line from downtown Denver to Wheat Ridge will open later this month.
RTD announced Monday that the delayed G Line from DenverUnion Station to Wheat Ridge is set to begin operation April 26.
The rail line was originally planned to open in October 2016, but problems with the timing of the crossing gates led to delays.
The agency expects to record 9,000 passenger trips per day during the line’s first year. Rides on the line will be free for the first two days.
Officials also say the 2.3-mile light rail extension to Lone Tree will open May 19.
