The Pueblo Chieftain: A learning experience for Risley, Heroes

It might not be happening exactly the way local officials planned, but a bold experiment is about to begin at two Pueblo City Schools (D60).

Last week, D60?s board of education selected Florida-based MGT Consulting, in partnership with the University of Virginia, to take over management of Heroes Middle School and Risley International Academy of Innovation.

The decision will require the approval of the Colorado Board of Education, which is expected to consider the matter at a meeting April 10. That may or may not be routine, given that both the local and state teachers’ unions have come out in opposition to D60?s choice.
