The secretary of the treasury is coming back to Denver.

Well, not the current one. The one from the 1790s.

Not the real one. An actor.

He’s bringing George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, King George III and Aaron Burr back with him.

And you have another chance to be in the room where it happened.

Yes, Hamilton — the touring version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s wildly popular Broadway musical — is returning to Denver for a second run — a month before the next presidential election.

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts announced Monday that the show will run Aug. 12-Oct. 4, 2020, at the Buell Theater.

DCPA has not yet released details on ticket sales, but people who buy into its separate 2019-20 Broadway subscription package will get priority. You can sign up for ticket alerts here.

The show sold out its earlier Buell run on Feb. 27-April 1, 2018.

If the earlier run is any indication, after tickets are sold to DCPA season subscription holders, there will be a single-ticket on-sale opportunity for non-subscribers, as well as a digital lottery a few days before each performance.

Hamilton is based on the Ron Chernow biography of the immigrant who rose to be Washington’s top military aide and treasury secretary, the leading early proponent of a strong national government and the architect of America’s financial system. It focuses on Hamilton’s messy personal life as well and his bitter feuds with Jefferson and Burr.

It won 11 2016 Tony Awards, including best musical and three acting awards. It also scored that year’s Pulitzer Prize for drama.

The innovative musical blends the tale of the political squabbles that shaped the nation in its early years with a driving hip-hop and jazz score.
